Personal Life:
Ian Somerhalder was born in Covington, Louisiana. His mother name is Edna, a massage therapist, and father is Robert Somerhalder, an independent building contractor. He attended St. Paul's, a private Catholic school in Covington. He is currently dating his Vampire Diaries co-star Nina Dobrev.


Career:
He started his modeling career from age 10 to 13 and and by the age of 17 he decided to study acting in New York, and by 19 had committed himself to the craft, working with preeminent acting coach William Esper. In 2004, Somerhalder scored his breakthrough role when he played Boone Carlyle in the hit TV show Lost. In September 2009, Somerhalder appeared in the movie The Tournament where he played the role of an assassin participating in a lethal competition with other assassins. Somerhalder stars in the CW television drama The Vampire Diaries as Damon Salvatore.
